TechFlow reports, Telegram founder Pavel Durov has issued a statement revealing that he was questioned by police in Paris for four days last month, due to French authorities not receiving a response from Telegram.
Durov expressed surprise, noting that Telegram has an official representative within the EU to handle such requests and that French authorities have multiple means of contacting him. He criticized holding platform founders personally accountable for platform misuse as an oversimplified approach.
Durov emphasized that Telegram remains committed to communicating with regulators to strike a balance between privacy and security. If agreements cannot be reached, Telegram is prepared to exit relevant markets, as it previously did in Russia and Iran.
Durov acknowledged that Telegram is not perfect, and the rapid user growth to 950 million has introduced certain challenges.
He pledged to continue improving platform security and said more details would be shared soon. Finally, Durov expressed hope that this incident could help make Telegram—and the social networking industry as a whole—safer and stronger.
