TechFlow reports that Penpie, a standalone decentralized finance protocol built on Pendle, was hacked early this morning, resulting in customer fund losses of approximately $27 million.
Penpie has suspended all deposit and withdrawal operations. A Pendle spokesperson confirmed the safety of its customers' funds and announced the suspension of all contracts until the issue is resolved.
According to Immunfi, over $1.2 billion has been stolen through 154 hacking incidents and vulnerability exploits so far in 2024. Mitchell Amador, founder and CEO of Immunefi, noted that while most vulnerabilities occur in the DeFi sector, the largest financial losses stem from vulnerabilities in CeFi infrastructure.
A PeckShield report shows that losses from hacks in August 2024 exceeded $313 million, including two major attacks that stole about $238 million worth of Bitcoin and $55 million in Dai, respectively.
Scam Sniffer reported a 215% surge in losses from phishing attacks in August 2024, with a single attack stealing $55 million.
