TechFlow news, according to CNBC, OpenAI is in talks for a new funding round with a valuation exceeding $100 billion. Sources indicate that Thrive Capital will lead the round with a $1 billion investment. Microsoft, OpenAI's largest backer, is also participating in this funding round. Since 2019, Microsoft has invested $13 billion in OpenAI and currently holds 49% of the company's profit share.
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar released a memo stating that the new funding discussions are still in early stages and that the capital being raised will be used for computing and operational needs.
