TechFlow reports that Layer 2 network Base has announced the launch of Basenames, a service allowing users to register unique base.eth usernames, making it easier to connect, collaborate, and contribute on-chain.
According to the announcement, Basenames will be released via a Dutch auction model, starting at a high price and gradually decreasing over 36 hours until reaching the standard rate. This mechanism prevents bots from instantly snatching up names and ensures everyone has a fair chance to secure their desired username.
With the launch of Basenames, basenameapp—the early provider of on-chain identity services for Base—will gradually phase out. All existing BNS name holders will receive discounts when registering Basenames using the same wallet. Built on the open-source ENS protocol, Basenames enables anyone to use and contribute to its underlying technology.
