TechFlow reports that the Polkadot network has passed RFC 97, a proposal aiming to significantly shorten the DOT token unlocking period. After review and discussion, the proposal received approval from the Fellowship, and its code or design has been merged into the main codebase.
The new mechanism will replace the fixed 28-day unlocking period with a dynamic range of 2 to 28 days, depending on the size of the unlocking request queue. When the queue is relatively idle, unlocking can be completed in as little as two days; however, when unlocking requests (measured in staked amount) exceed a certain threshold, the period will extend back to 28 days. The proposal suggests first implementing and testing this model on the Kusama network to evaluate its effectiveness and stability before considering integration into the Polkadot mainnet.
Previous report, Polkadot proposed shortening the staking unlock period from 28 days to two days.
