TechFlow news, according to The Block, the market capitalization share of DeFi in the global cryptocurrency market (DeFi dominance) has dropped to its lowest level in three years. Last Friday, the DeFi index fell to 2.84%, the lowest since early January 2021. Since September 2022, DeFi dominance has been on a downward trend overall, having declined to 4.47% at the beginning of 2024. So far this year, DeFi dominance has further decreased by 29%.
Reasons for the lack of investor interest in DeFi tokens include:
-
Meme coin frenzy has diverted investors' attention and capital.
-
High fully diluted valuations (FDV) of many DeFi tokens have raised inflation concerns.
-
Private investor token unlock mechanisms in DeFi projects are perceived as unfavorable to retail investors.
-
The launch of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs has drawn institutional investors' attention toward these mainstream assets.
