TechFlow news, on August 8, according to Jinshi Data, the number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending August 3 came in at 233,000, compared to an expected 240,000 and a prior revised figure of 250,000 (originally reported as 249,000), marking the lowest level since the week of July 6 and the largest decline in nearly a year.
U.S. Department of Labor data released Thursday showed that initial claims fell by 17,000 to 233,000 in the week ending August 3—the biggest drop in almost a year. Claims decreased in states such as Michigan, Missouri, and Texas, which had seen sharp increases in recent weeks. The decline in initial claims may reassure markets that the labor market is simply reverting to its pre-pandemic trend rather than deteriorating rapidly. Last week's weaker-than-expected nonfarm payrolls report triggered a global market sell-off and sparked calls for the Federal Reserve to begin cutting interest rates before its September meeting.
