TechFlow news — Cryptocurrency analyst and CNBC show "Crypto Banter" host Ran Neuner shared his view, emphasizing that the yen-to-dollar exchange rate chart may currently be the most important chart in the world.
Neuner pointed out that Japan has maintained a 0% interest rate for nearly 30 years, leading investors to borrow yen over the long term and invest globally, including in foreign government bonds and risk assets such as the Nasdaq. However, the Bank of Japan raised interest rates by 0.25% this week—the first such hike in years—triggering rare market concerns.
Neuner expects that due to rising interest rates, investors may begin unwinding positions and repatriating funds back to Japan, involving an estimated amount exceeding $4 trillion.
He warned that if the yen continues to strengthen, it could lead to a "massacre" of risk assets.
