TechFlow news — U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan for the Southern District of New York approved on July 30 the request by former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO Ryan Salame to delay his prison surrender.
Salame was originally scheduled to begin serving his sentence on August 29 but has now been granted a 45-day extension, pushing his self-surrender date to October 13. The delay was granted due to facial injuries sustained on June 29 when Salame was attacked and bitten in the face by a German Shepherd at a friend's home, requiring medical treatment and surgery.
Salame previously pleaded guilty in September 2023 to charges of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business and campaign finance violations related to the misuse of customer funds at FTX and Alameda Research. He was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. Notably, former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced in March this year to 25 years in prison and has since filed an appeal.
Other individuals connected to FTX and Alameda, Nishad Singh and Gary Wang, are scheduled to be sentenced in October and November of this year, respectively, while Caroline Ellison's sentencing date remains undetermined.
