TechFlow news: U.S. independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that if elected, he would push the federal government to purchase bitcoin until its holdings reach a value equivalent to the nation's gold reserves.
The United States currently holds around $615 billion worth of gold, equivalent to approximately 9.4 million bitcoins. Kennedy referred to bitcoin as "honest money" and plans to complete the acquisition within his four-year term.
He also pledged to eliminate capital gains taxes on bitcoin and proposed backing government currency and debt with a basket of hard assets, including bitcoin. If implemented, the U.S. would become the world's largest bitcoin holder.
