TechFlow news, according to CoinDesk, U.S. Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey has been found guilty by a jury of accepting bribes—including gold bars and luxury vehicles—in exchange for political influence. He had previously called bitcoin "the choice of criminals." The cryptocurrency community noted the irony that this critic, who once claimed bitcoin "is the ideal choice for criminals," has now himself been convicted of criminal charges.
Menendez was a co-sponsor of the "Salvadoran Accountability in Cryptocurrency Engagement Act (ACES)," which required the U.S. State Department to report on the risks posed to the U.S. financial system by El Salvador's adoption of bitcoin as legal tender. Stacy Herbert, a member of El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office, said the real bad actor is Bob Menendez, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he chaired should apologize to the President of El Salvador and to El Salvador. Menendez’s sentencing is scheduled for October 29, and he could face decades in prison.
