Economist Noah Smith pointed out that authoritarian states leverage centralized internet data to respond rapidly to unrest, while liberal democracies face challenges of information chaos and misinformation. Vitalik added that information monopolies could become a stable equilibrium, but blockchain technology can offer decentralized solutions to strengthen the resilience of democratic institutions.
