TechFlow reports that Matter Labs, the developer behind zkSync, said they have applied for trademarks related to "ZK" to ensure the term can be freely used in names such as "ZK Sync" and "ZK Stack." Whether you like it or not, trademarks are currently the only available legal tool.
They emphasized that trademarks are limited to specific uses in connection with particular goods or services, and do not constitute general ownership.
They are committed to establishing an appropriate structure for the ZK trademark that remains accessible to everyone building ZK technology. They invite other ZK projects to join this effort, stressing that ZK technology and its terminology should always remain a public good, freely available to all.
