TechFlow news: On February 7, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) released a comprehensive report issuing strong warnings about potential fragmentation within the emerging metaverse and the risks associated with private-sector dominance. The report emphasized the critical role of public policy in safeguarding the future of this digital ecosystem.
The BIS stressed that without strategic oversight to ensure fair access, data privacy, and robust consumer protection measures, the metaverse's promise of economic transformation across sectors such as gaming, e-commerce, and education could be undermined.
Furthermore, the BIS called on global regulators, central banks, and policymakers to work together in developing regulations that foster innovation, protect users, and maintain the integrity of digital transactions.
