TechFlow news: Disney has announced a $1.5 billion investment in gaming company Epic Games, acquiring a minority stake in the company. The two parties will also "collaborate to build a new open, persistent, and social universe, further expanding Disney's beloved stories and experiences."
The teaser states that a new universe is coming—one where players can play, visit, create, and shop, while "exploring a place where magic meets epic storytelling."
Disney emphasized its long-standing use of Epic's Unreal Engine in film production and theme park projects such as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The company said its new gaming universe will also be built using the Unreal Engine.
