TechFlow news, according to The Block, in the final ruling on the RR/BAYC infringement lawsuit involving the BAYC copycat project, U.S. District Judge John F. Walter has ordered Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahen to pay Yuga Labs nearly $9 million in disgorged profits, fines, attorney fees, and other costs, bringing the copyright litigation to a close.
As part of the judgment, Ripps and Cahen must also surrender their NFTs within the next two weeks and transfer all infringing intellectual property—including domain names and smart contracts—to Yuga Labs.
In June 2022, Yuga Labs sued over the "RR/BAYC" NFT collection for infringement, accusing them of using original BAYC images to mass-produce and sell knockoff NFTs under the name "RR/BAYC," thereby devaluing the BAYC NFTs. Ripps previously argued that the lawsuit was an attack on his free speech rights and stated he would settle the case for no less than $100 billion. In April this year, a U.S. judge ruled that the RR/BAYC copycat project infringed Yuga Labs' copyrights.
