TechFlow reports that Atomicals Protocol has announced the latest progress on its token splitting feature on X. This new functionality allows users to send less than 546 units of a token, aiming to enhance flexibility in token usage and reduce the risk of token loss. After completing feature development last month and holding in-depth discussions with various independent Atomicals services, the team decided—considering integration complexity and timing—to pursue a more streamlined solution.
Through discussions with external experts, the team identified a novel token splitting approach that does not require re-materializing Satoshis. Instead, it enables partial coloring of UTXOs. This means tokens are still backed by at least one Satoshi, while allowing multiple Satoshis to "materialize" a single token.
This method not only simplifies wallet integration but also significantly reduces the risk of accidental token burn by assigning change outputs for leftover tokens, thereby improving token usability and fungibility.
In addition, Atomicals Protocol plans to release specifications and software for this token splitting technique, providing ample time over the coming weeks for wallets and services to complete integration.
