TechFlow reports, according to cryptonews, that phishing emails related to cryptocurrency-themed content on the creator platform Patreon have surged.
As reported on social media platforms such as X and Reddit, scammers are registering Patreon accounts using victims' email addresses and then using these accounts to send malicious emails promoting fake crypto projects.
The first reports of these phishing attempts emerged on January 23, with affected users sharing experiences of receiving fraudulent airdrop offers from Patreon creators impersonating well-known cryptocurrencies such as Chainlink (LINK) and Solana (SOL).
Patreon Support claimed it has resolved the issue, explaining that the incident involved an email verification flaw and subsequent actions by a crypto-related account falsely claiming to be a Patreon creator. The platform assured users that affected accounts are being addressed and the situation has been rectified.
