TechFlow news: Maxine Waters, a Democratic Congresswoman from California, sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Javier Olivan, expressing concerns over Meta's ongoing efforts to expand its influence in the cryptocurrency industry, as the company has recently filed five trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office related to digital asset services and blockchain technology.
The letter stated, "Meta first filed an application on March 18, 2022, and the subsequent filings up to January 22 appear to represent the company’s continued intent to expand its involvement in the digital asset ecosystem."
The letter highlights Meta's five trademark filings, which include several applications related to the digital asset space, such as social media networks, dating services, transactions, and cryptocurrency verification. Although all five applications remain active, Meta informed the House Financial Services Committee on October 12 that it had no ongoing work related to digital assets.
