TechFlow news, CoinGecko released a report stating that since 2014, more than 14,039 out of over 24,000 cryptocurrencies listed on CoinGecko have died, accounting for over 50%.
The majority of these defunct cryptocurrencies originated from projects launched during the 2020 to 2021 bull market. During this period, 7,530 cryptocurrencies failed, making up 53.6% of all dead cryptocurrencies listed on CoinGecko. In the previous bull market, over 11,000 cryptocurrencies were listed on CoinGecko, approximately 70% of which have since been shut down.
In 2023, 289 cryptocurrencies listed on CoinGecko have died. This indicates a failure rate of less than 10%, with over 4,000 new cryptocurrencies listed, a significant decline compared to previous years.
