TechFlow news: Ethereum developers, node operators, and users have not yet reached consensus on Vitalik Buterin's recent proposal to increase the Ethereum gas limit.
On January 11, Vitalik advocated for a "modest" 33% increase in the gas limit to potentially improve network throughput. However, Ethereum developer Marius van der Wijden noted that this approach has drawbacks, primarily concerning the growth of the blockchain state size, which includes account balances and smart contract data.
He stated that the total space required for the current state is approximately 267GB, adding, "If we raise the gas limit, this size will grow faster."
