TechFlow reports that during a Reddit "ask-me-anything" event organized by the Ethereum Foundation research team, Vitalik noted that Ethereum's gas limit has not increased for nearly three years—the longest period without a change in gas limit in its history.
Vitalik stated: "Frankly, I think a moderate increase in the gas limit would be reasonable even today."
He then performed some simple calculations and suggested it could be raised to around 40 million.
According to data from Etherscan, the current gas limit is 30 million, meaning this would represent a 33% increase.
