TechFlow news: The National Press and Publication Administration today released a notice soliciting public opinions on the "Administrative Measures for Online Games (Draft for Soliciting Opinions)."
According to the draft, online game currency may only be used to redeem game products and services provided by the platform, and shall not be used to purchase physical goods or products and services from other entities.
Meanwhile, gaming platforms are prohibited from offering services that convert game currency into legal tender, except when a game ceases operations, in which case unused game currency may be refunded to users in legal currency or other forms. Where virtual items can be exchanged for small physical goods, the content and value of such goods must comply with national regulations.
In addition, the draft stipulates that entities engaged in online game publishing activities must store essential technical equipment, servers, and storage devices within China. Online game publishers must not encourage high-value trading of virtual items through speculation, auctions, or similar means.
