TechFlow news: In 2023, Kazakhstan's Financial Markets Authority (FMA) blocked 980 cryptocurrency exchanges that provided services to local citizens without proper registration and launched nine investigations into "illegal trading operations" and money laundering activities.
It is reported that the Digital Assets Law, enacted in February 2023, prohibits the creation and trading of digital currencies and cryptocurrency exchange activities unless authorized by the state. The Astana International Financial Center (AIFC), a special economic zone in Kazakhstan, is responsible for preliminary approval of operations.
