TechFlow reports that Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr posted on X stating that inscriptions are exploiting a vulnerability in Bitcoin Core to spam the blockchain.
Luke Dashjr noted that this vulnerability was recently fixed in Bitcoin Knots v25.1. The fix took longer than usual because his workflow was severely disrupted toward the end of last year (with v24 completely skipped). The vulnerability still exists in the upcoming v26 release of Bitcoin Core. He hopes it will be finally resolved before next year's v27 release.
Since 2013, Bitcoin Core has allowed users to set size limits for additional data when relaying or mining transactions. Inscriptions have bypassed this restriction by obfuscating their data as program code.
