TechFlow news — According to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, discussions around Sam Altman's return to OpenAI have hit a stalemate over the composition and roles within the board of directors. On Sunday local time, Altman and former president Greg Brockman appeared at OpenAI’s headquarters.
The OpenAI executives who pushed for the board’s resignation and Altman’s reinstatement include interim CEO Mira Murati, Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon, and Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap.
Altman remains open to returning but wants to see changes in corporate governance, including replacing the current board members.
Sources said the board agreed to a deadline requested by Altman and his supporters: 5 p.m. local time on Sunday (9 a.m. Beijing time Monday). For Altman to be reinstated as CEO, the board may need to issue a statement absolving him of any misconduct. Several people familiar with the matter said Bret Taylor, former co-CEO of Salesforce Inc., is expected to join the new board, with another possible member being an executive from Microsoft Corp.
