TechFlow news — In an article published today, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that in 2023, Plasma is an underappreciated design space. He emphasized that rollups remain the gold standard, offering unmatched security properties. Especially from a developer experience perspective, nothing matches the simplicity for application developers who do not need to worry about ownership graphs and incentive flows.
However, Plasma allows us to completely circumvent the data availability problem, thereby significantly reducing transaction fees. For chains meant to serve as verifier chains, Plasma can provide an important security upgrade. This year, ZK-EVM has finally matured, creating an excellent opportunity to re-explore this design space and develop more efficient architectures that simplify developer experience and protect users' funds.
