TechFlow reported, according to CoinDesk, U.S. Representatives Zach Nunn and Abigail Spanberger introduced the "Creating Legal Accountability for Rogue Innovators and Technology Act" (CLARITY) on Wednesday. The bill prohibits federal government officials from conducting business with Chinese blockchain companies, bans government employees from using foundational networks of Chinese blockchain or crypto trading platforms, explicitly forbids U.S. government officials from transacting with iFinex—the parent company of USDT issuer Tether—and also prohibits officials from engaging in transactions with The Spartan Network, The Conflux Network, and Red Date Technology.
The stated goal of this latest legislation is to ensure that America's "foreign adversaries do not have backdoors to access critical national security intelligence and private information of Americans."
Notably, both authors of the bill are not part of the U.S. House leadership nor hold significant positions on committees.
