TechFlow News, the NEAR Foundation and Polygon Labs announced a strategic partnership at NEARCON, NEAR's annual flagship conference held in Lisbon, to build zkWASM based on the Polygon CDK.
The zkWASM prover is currently under active development and is expected to launch next year. Additionally, the NEAR Foundation has become a core contributor to Polygon CDK.
Ultimately, zkWASM will be one of three provers available for developers using the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK) to build their chains.
"NEAR innovates in new research areas and integrates more closely with Ethereum. The shared expertise between NEAR and Polygon will expand the ZK landscape and aggregate liquidity across chains. Building and utilizing zkWASM provers will also enhance the scalability and decentralization properties of the NEAR L1," said Illia Polosukhin, co-founder of NEAR Protocol.
Notably, the zkWASM prover aims to build a more secure and interoperable Web3 ecosystem, bringing the NEAR protocol closer to Ethereum and enabling WASM-based chains to leverage Ethereum’s liquidity, paving the way for greater trustless interoperability between the NEAR and Ethereum ecosystems.
