TechFlow news, SEC Chair Gary Gensler reiterated concerns about the crypto market at the 2023 Securities Enforcement Forum, stating that the vast majority of crypto assets should be regulated under securities laws.
Gary Gensler said the SEC brought over 780 enforcement actions in 2023, including more than 500 standalone cases. These enforcement actions resulted in judgments and orders totaling $5 billion, with $930 million distributed to harmed investors.
In addition, he noted that since December 2021, the SEC has filed lawsuits against 40 companies for violations, resulting in penalties exceeding $1.5 billion.
