TechFlow news, according to monitoring by Beosin EagleEye — a security risk monitoring, early-warning, and blocking platform under blockchain security auditing firm Beosin — the total financial losses from various security incidents in September 2023 surged significantly compared to August. Over 16 notable security incidents occurred in September, resulting in total losses of $360 million due to hacker attacks, phishing frauds, and Rug Pulls, an increase of approximately 414% from August. Of this, attacks accounted for around $323 million, phishing scams for $32.12 million, and Rug Pulls for $5.3 million.
This month, four incidents each caused losses exceeding $10 million: Mixin Network was hacked for $200 million, cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx lost $70 million from its hot wallet, crypto gambling platform Stake suffered a $41.3 million theft, and a whale address fell victim to a phishing attack with losses of approximately $24.23 million. These four incidents alone accounted for 93% of the total losses.
In addition, the JPEX cryptocurrency exchange scam case in Hong Kong affected a large number of victims this month, with the involved amount reaching $190 million, making it the most significant and noteworthy cryptocurrency incident recently.
