TechFlow news — Optimism announced in its official tweet that it will initiate the process of establishing a Security Council, marking a step toward a more decentralized Superchain network.
"We are seeking community feedback on a series of governance proposals regarding the formation of this council. The creation of the Security Council underscores Optimism’s commitment to decentralization."
Optimism stated it will put forward a governance proposal aiming to add the Security Council as a signer in the multi-sig controlling OP Mainnet protocol upgrades. The full Council will consist of at least 8 members with a 75% signing threshold and will be implemented through a series of governance votes. In this initial phase, the Council will act as a co-signer in the multi-sig, effectively becoming one of the two required signers in the current 2-of-2 OP Mainnet multi-sig setup.
Subsequently, follow-up governance proposals will be introduced to fully transfer multi-sig authority to the Security Council. On October 12, the Token House will vote on whether to approve this change to the OP Mainnet security model. The upcoming TH vote will include approvals for both the initial Security Council members and the protocol upgrades necessary for the full implementation of the Council.
