TechFlow reported, citing CoinDesk, that Agustin Carstens, General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements, said countries should establish legislation supporting the deployment of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
A 2020 document from the International Monetary Fund showed that nearly 80% of central banks either are not permitted under existing laws to issue CBDCs or lack clarity in their legal frameworks regarding this issue. Agustin Carstens said at a meeting held in Switzerland that this situation needs to be rectified.
