TechFlow reports that Casey Rodarmor, founder of Ordinals, has introduced "Runes," an alternative BRC-20 token standard protocol based on unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs).
He explained that while BRC-20 allows token issuance and transfers via the Ordinals protocol, it has the drawback of generating spam UTXOs. Runes, by contrast, prevents the creation of such spam UTXOs—referring to unspent transaction outputs that are no longer needed or used.
