TechFlow news: Blockchain gaming startup Proof of Play has announced a $33 million seed funding round led by Greenoaks and a16z, with participation from Balaji Srinivasan, Twitch founders Justin Kan and Emmett Shear, as well as Mercury, Firebase, Zynga, and Alchemy.
Proof of Play aims to create fun and user-friendly blockchain games. Its first game is a social role-playing game called "Pirate Nation," which released a beta version in December. According to the announcement, FarmVille had over 300 million players and was ranked as Facebook's number one game of all time. In addition to creating FarmVille, Mahajan previously served as an executive at Zynga and later founded Toro, which was subsequently acquired by Google.
