TechFlow reports that Ordinals founder Casey Rodarmor has proposed changing the protocol's numbering system to simplify the project's codebase.
Rodarmor believes maintaining stable inscription numbering has led to "messy code and stalled development." As a result, he proposes making inscription numbering "permanently unstable," meaning the system that assigns unique numbers to inscriptions will be deprioritized.
Rodarmor further stated that inscription numbers will still change, but not be entirely eliminated. New inscription numbers will remain close to the old ones, but could differ by up to 1%.
