TechFlow news, according to The Block, Metis plans to become Ethereum's first decentralized Layer 2 this year, enabling its community to take over key centralized components of the network.
Elena Sinelnikova, co-founder of Metis, said that by empowering the community to control a decentralized sequencer pool, Metis aims to demonstrate that it can retain the scalability benefits of Layer 2 while reducing centralization risks. In addition, it involves publishing full transaction data back to Ethereum, effectively transforming the Metis Layer 2 back into a classic Optimistic Rollup.
Sinelnikova also attributed the rapid growth of Layer 2 in 2023 to airdrops following the emergence of new networks such as Arbitrum, Base, Mantle, Linea, and zkSync.
