TechFlow news: 23pds, Chief Information Security Officer at SlowMist, stated on social media X (formerly Twitter) that Vitalik's Twitter account was hijacked today to post phishing content, most likely through a SIM swap attack. Previously, the Uniswap founder's Twitter account was similarly compromised—both are targeted attacks against high-profile individuals. Since such figures have large followings, phishing posts gain significantly more exposure and make attackers more profit. Given how low the cost of SIM swap attacks is, everyone should be aware of this risk.
Earlier in July, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams' Twitter account was also hacked and used to post tweets containing phishing links. Twitter account breaches like these may stem from SIM swapping, where attackers take over victims' phone numbers, allowing them access to bank accounts, credit cards, or other social media accounts.
