TechFlow reports that German airline group Lufthansa has launched an NFT rewards program, offering passengers digital collectibles to unlock additional benefits. Airlines under the Lufthansa Group—including Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines—have joined the Uptrip loyalty program. Passengers flying with these carriers can collect digital trading cards based on specific destinations, aircraft, and holiday themes. By completing themed card sets, users can unlock special perks such as free in-flight Wi-Fi, airport lounge access, and redeemable air miles. Uptrip also plans to introduce a trading feature, allowing users to fill gaps in their collections.
Launched by Lufthansa Innovation Group, Uptrip is built on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. The program has already undergone a soft launch and testing phase, during which over 20,000 users collected more than 200,000 digital trading cards. The Lufthansa Group’s traditional Miles & More loyalty program has approximately 36 million members. Lufthansa is the latest company to adopt Polygon, which offers faster and lower-cost transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet. Other major brands including Starbucks, Nike, McDonald's, Reddit, and Coca-Cola have also launched their NFT initiatives on Polygon.
