TechFlow reported, according to Cointelegraph, the decentralized social protocol friend.tech has faced strong criticism over its decision to penalize users who choose to fork or imitate the platform. Friend.tech stated on X: "We expect clone versions of friend.tech and other types of replicas to emerge. To ensure loyal users are fairly rewarded during our testing period, users who move to forks and clone versions will automatically opt out of earning points and forfeit their existing points. They will still be able to use the application normally." While friend.tech did not mention any specific competitors, some X users in the replies pointed to a new app called Shares, which plans to launch its public beta on August 31. The team has not yet disclosed the final utility of these points, only mentioning on August 15 that they will have a "special purpose" when the application reaches official release status.
