TechFlow reports that Thales, an options protocol within the Synthetix ecosystem, has tweeted to confirm that all user funds on Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Base chains remain safe.
Previously, due to a hacker compromising the personal computer/MetaMask of a core developer, multiple hot wallets serving as temporary deployers ($25,000) or admin bots ($10,000) were breached.
Thales stated that this attack did not affect user funds. The total amount stolen from the compromised wallets was approximately $10,000. Additionally, Thales' security practices on BSC were weaker compared to other chains, allowing the attacker to exploit this vulnerability to take control of the BSC contracts, resulting in a loss of $25,000 in BUSD.
Thales has decided to officially discontinue support for BSC. It urges users not to interact with any Thales contracts on BSC and to revoke pending approvals.
The statement lists two compromised hot wallet addresses and warns users against further interaction with these addresses. The attacker’s address is 0xca1c859a40f39b0bac46551fa5e9fb969898ae70.
Although the $35,000 loss has limited financial impact on Thales, the team has pledged to learn from this incident and strengthen its security measures.
