TechFlow reports that Brian Brooks and Charles Calomiris, former officials of the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), said stablecoins could serve as a tool to help the U.S. dollar maintain its reserve currency status. Brooks and Calomiris called for regulations enabling stablecoin issuers to clearly meet the conditions required for asset growth. Stablecoins could become a crucial instrument against global de-dollarization, acting as a catalyst for individuals in developing countries to demand dollars—even when their governments themselves do not support dollarization.
