TechFlow news, according to The Block, Worldcoin has released a signed open letter from Sam Altman, announcing the launch of its WLD token and its distribution to over 2 million people worldwide.
In today's announcement, Worldcoin pledged to accelerate registration by deploying Orbs in more than 35 cities across 20 countries globally. Individuals verified through an Orb will initially receive 25 WLD tokens, along with future periodic grants.
The project is one of the most controversial in the cryptocurrency space, focusing on helping individuals verify their identity in person via iris-scanning orbs to prove their identity online. More than 2 million people—most from countries in the Global South—have already been verified, and all of them will today receive their entitled share of WLD tokens.
Previously, investor materials prepared by Worldcoin in December 2022 indicated that the total supply of WLD tokens would amount to 10 billion, with 80% reserved for users, operators, and the ecosystem, and 20% allocated to the Worldcoin team and its supporters.
