TechFlow news, Tony Cheng, General Partner at Foresight Ventures, shared entrepreneurial insights at EthCC, stating that influencer marketing is crucial in the cryptocurrency space. Application developers have almost no other way to attract users, as paid marketing through companies like Google or Facebook is unavailable, and there is no centralized distribution channel accessible to most protocols or applications besides platforms such as Twitter or Telegram.
Cheng emphasized that projects should collaborate with KOLs while ensuring alignment with their user base and making sure the messages conveyed to users are consistent with the company's vision.
In addition, Cheng noted that the recent SEC vs. Ripple ruling determined that institutional private placements constitute securities sales, but ICOs sold to retail investors are considered legal. However, he cautioned against abusing ICOs until regulatory clarity improves. He suggested that the positive ruling on retail sales could apply to various fundraising mechanisms similar to ICOs, such as IDOs and IFOs. "I believe that in the U.S., ICOs might become the only viable way to truly raise funds in the future," he emphasized.
