TechFlow reports that Polkadot has recently launched an open decentralized governance platform called Polkadot OpenGov, aimed at simplifying its governance model. This platform introduces a new governance framework that eliminates the concept of "first-class citizens" such as the Polkadot Council. Instead, the newly elected body, the Polkadot Fellowship, replaces both the Polkadot Council and the Technical Committee. The Polkadot Fellowship currently consists of 45 members, a number that may grow as core developers submit candidacy applications. However, the Fellowship holds no executive power over the network and cannot change parameters or move assets.
In addition, Polkadot OpenGov supports simultaneous voting on multiple proposals, enabling the community to directly control all aspects. Compared to the previous governance system, this new model offers higher efficiency—each referendum lasts only 28 days by default, allowing for 12 to 13 referendums per year. The launch of Polkadot OpenGov will further promote the development of the Polkadot ecosystem and enhance its ability to serve the community effectively.
