TechFlow news, according to sources, MoonPay gifted top Hollywood celebrities with Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs at the end of 2021 in an effort to boost its profile.
In response to these allegations, MoonPay denies providing Bored Ape NFTs to celebrities for free. A spokesperson stated that the company charged its celebrity clients "full NFT fees," and that clients paid for the service.
Another spokesperson declined to answer questions regarding the exact timing of invoice deliveries or whether all MoonPay customers have settled their bills.
Currently, a class-action lawsuit alleging collusion between celebrities including Justin Bieber, Madonna, and Stephen Curry, MoonPay, and Yuga Labs to artificially inflate NFT values is awaiting procedural rulings.
