TechFlow news, according to a research report by Elliptic, hacker groups linked to North Korea have stolen $721 million worth of cryptocurrency assets from Japan since 2017, accounting for 30% of the global total in such losses.
Elliptic stated that from 2017 through the end of 2022, North Korea-linked hacking groups stole a total of $2.3 billion in cryptocurrency from companies worldwide. Japan suffered the largest share of these losses, followed by Vietnam ($540 million), the United States ($497 million), and Hong Kong, China ($281 million).
According to a report released on April 5 by a United Nations Security Council expert panel, North Korea stole between $600 million and $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency in 2022—double the amount from the previous year. Elliptic estimates the 2022 figure at $640 million.
