TechFlow news, Ethereum core developers finalized part of the network's next hard fork, known as "Shanghai," during Thursday's All Core Developers meeting. Scheduled for March 2023, the upgrade will enable withdrawals of staked ETH from the beacon chain, also referred to as EIP-4895. Developers also agreed to address the implementation of the EVM Object Format (EOF) during Shanghai—a collection of EIPs that essentially upgrades the Ethereum Virtual Machine, the environment enabling Ethereum to execute smart contracts. These Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) are EIP-3540, EIP-3670, EIP-4200, EIP-4570, and EIP-5450.
Developers also agreed on a second hard fork expected sometime in autumn 2023, which will implement another major scalability upgrade—proto-danksharding, also known as EIP-4844. EIP-4844 will enhance Ethereum’s scalability through sharding, a method of splitting the network into “shards” to increase capacity and reduce gas fees.
Following Thursday's call, Ethereum developers aim to launch a new public testnet for Shanghai around December 15–16. Over the next month, developers will focus on ensuring Shanghai proceeds as smoothly as possible, planning to initiate mainnet shadow forks by mid-to-late January 2023.Source link
