TechFlow News, August 26 — According to Fortune, a report by intelligence firm Kharon reveals that Alexey Pertsev, developer of the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, was once employed by a company linked to Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).
The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Tornado Cash on August 8, stating that hacker groups including North Korea's Lazarus Group used the service to launder billions of dollars. Two days later, Dutch authorities arrested Pertsev on charges of "participating in concealing the flow of criminal funds and aiding money laundering." Some security and compliance experts criticized the Treasury's unprecedented sanctions action against Tornado Cash in August.
