TechFlow news, cryptocurrency data websites including Etherscan, CoinGecko, DexTools, and DeFi Pulse have reported malicious pop-up incidents prompting users to connect their MetaMask wallets.
CoinGecko said in a tweet: "If you're on the CoinGecko website and your Metamask is prompting you to connect to the site, this is a scam. Do not connect. We are investigating the root cause of this issue."
Etherscan, in a tweet regarding the incident, stated: "We've received reports of phishing pop-ups via third-party integrations and are currently investigating. Please be cautious not to confirm any transactions prompted by pop-ups on the website."
Although the exact cause has not yet been confirmed, early indications suggest that malicious code delivered through ads on the affected websites served as the vector for the phishing attacks. The impacted website DexTools has attributed responsibility to a crypto advertising platform named Coinzilla.
